On February 1, 2020, at about 10:50 p.m., deputies assigned to the Thermal Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to a possible domestic disturbance in the 84400 block of Calle Cathron, Coachella. Upon arrival, deputies located the parties involved in the disturbance call, but also found an unconscious male in a vehicle separate from the disturbance call.  The male had sustained trauma from gunshots and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Deputies secured the street as a crime scene and station investigators responded to begin the investigation. The Central Homicide Unit responded and assumed the investigation.

The decedent was identified as Rene Arostegui, 20 years of Moreno Valley. The investigation is currently on-going and no further information will be released at this time.
