Update 07/06/2019:

On 07/05/2019, investigators from the Central Homicide Unit located and spoke with family members of the victim of the homicide that occurred in Thermal on June 25th. The victim has been identified as Makayla Jean Massey from Victorville. The investigation is currently on-going and anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to contact Investigator Bishop of the Central Homicide Unit at (951) 955-2777.

Update 07/03/2019:

Maury Duarte Alexis Daniel Rosas

On 07/01/2019, Investigators from the Thermal Station and the Central Homicide Unit continued working on leads related to the murder of a female found last Tuesday morning in Thermal. Alexis Daniel Rosas, a 24 year old male from San Diego and Maury Duarte, a 29 year old female from Indio, were arrested for the murder of the deceased female adult. The victim has been identified but investigators have been unable to locate any relatives. Her name is being withheld until a notification can be made.  The investigation is currently on-going and anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to contact Investigator Bishop of the Central Homicide Unit at (951) 955-2777.

Details:

On Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at 6:00 AM, deputies from the Thermal Sheriff’s Station responded to the area of Avenue 53 and Monroe Street to investigate a report of a dead body. As the deputies arrived on Monroe, they located a deceased female adult and determined she was likely the victim of a homicide. Thermal Station investigators and the Central Homicide Unit assumed the investigation. The victim’s name is being held pending positive identification and next of kin notification. The investigation is currently on-going and anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to contact Investigator Bishop of the Central Homicide Unit at (951) 955-2777.
