On Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at 7:11 PM, deputies from the Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to the report of a domestic disturbance at residence in the 17700 block of Cedarwood Drive, in the unincorporated area of Riverside County, known as Lake Hills.
The reporting party told Sheriff’s Dispatch that the suspect was armed with a firearm and was inside the residence with a female occupant. Deputies, as well as a Cal Fire Peace Officer, arrived on scene as the female occupant exited the residence and made contact with deputies. Shortly after, the suspect exited the residence armed with a firearm and began shooting at deputies, resulting in a deputy/officer involved shooting. The suspect was fatally injured during the incident. During the deputy/officer involved shooting, a deputy was struck by the suspect’s gunfire.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Helicopter was on scene assisting overhead and landed in a nearby field to transport the deputy to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The deputy was later released.
There were no additional injuries to the additional occupant, members of the public, or any additional deputies. There are no outstanding suspects and no threat to public safety.
Investigators from the Riverside County Sheriff's Central Homicide Unit (CHU) responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Cal Fire personnel also responded to the scene and information specific to their peace officer’s involvement will be disclosed by Cal Fire.
The deputies and officer involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave per Department policies. The involved deputies' and officer name will not be released at this time.
