On Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at 5:30 AM, officers from the Indio Police Department responded to a residence located near Daffodil Ct. and Violet St. to investigate a domestic violence incident where the male suspect was reported to be armed with a gun. As the officers attempted to contact the suspect, an officer involved shooting occurred. The suspect, later identified as, Rigoberto Ramirez, a 45-year old male, was taken into custody. He was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive his injuries.
Based off an agreement and existing protocol between Indio Police Department and Riverside County Sheriff, the Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Ramirez was arrested for one count of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer and is currently held at East County Detention Center. The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave per policy and their names will not be released at this time.
