On Friday, April 20, 2019, at 10:33PM, officers from the Indio Police Department responded to an apartment located on the 40300 block of Washington Avenue, Bermuda Dunes, to further their investigation into an assault that occurred in Indio. As the officers attempted to contact the armed suspect, an officer involved shooting occurred. The Desert Regional SWAT team responded to the apartment complex where the suspect, 28-year-old, Cameron Kearney, was taken into custody. Neither of the officers nor the suspect were injured during the incident.

Based on the fact the shooting occurred within the community of Bermuda Dunes, the Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.  Cameron Kearney was arrested for two counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer and is currently held at Indio Jail. The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave per policy and their names will not be released at this time.
