Update 04-09-2019:

On April 6th, 2019, deputies assigned to the contract city of Coachella conducted a felony traffic stop on a wanted homicide suspect. Deputies arrested Gilbert Martinez, 30 years of Indio, at S. Balboa St. and Westerfield Way, Coachella. Martinez was booked into jail in Indio for the outstanding homicide warrant.

This is an active investigation and no additional details are available at this time.  The Riverside County Sheriff's Department encourages anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Central Homicide Investigator Alfaro at (760) 393-3528.

Golbert Martinez

On Sunday, April 8, 2018, at about 12:16 a.m., deputies from Thermal Station responded to the 91000 block of Fifth Street, in Mecca, regarding an assault with a deadly weapon. Upon arrival, the deputies found an adult male suffering from several gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel arrived to provide medical aid, and the victim was transported by air ambulance to a local hospital. The scene was secured by arriving deputies, and Thermal Station investigators responded. The victim, identified as Hugo Nunez, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The Central Homicide Unit was notified and responded to the scene to investigate the shooting with Thermal Station investigators.

During the investigation, the suspect was identified as Gilbert Martinez, 29 years of Indio. The Sheriff’s Department is requesting the public’s help in locating Martinez.
