On Tuesday, March 26, 2019, officers from the California Highway Patrol received information of a wanted suspect who was possibly in the Southern California desert area. The suspect, 20-year-old, Hakim Price Oden, was wanted by the San Francisco Police Department for an assault that occurred in their area.
At approximately 2:45 am, the officers located an unoccupied vehicle matching the description of one associated with Hakim Oden. The vehicle was located near the shoulder of Interstate 10, east of Corn Springs Road, near Blythe. While the officers checked the unoccupied vehicle, CHP Dispatch began receiving calls of an adult male attempting to flag down passing vehicles on the highway not far from their location. The officers located the adult male, later identified as Hakim Oden, on the shoulder of the highway and attempted to contact him. Suspect Oden ran from the officers who pursued him on foot. While pursuing Oden, an officer involved shooting occurred. Oden surrendered to the officers and was transported to an area hospital for treatment of a minor injury. Neither of the officers was injured during the incident.
Based on the circumstances and location of the incident, the Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit responded to the scene and assumed the officer involved shooting investigation. Hakim Oden was arrested for two counts of attempted homicide on a peace officer and is also facing charges for his involvement in the assault in San Francisco. He is currently held without bail at the Indio Jail.
