On Thursday, December 7th, 2017 at about 10:49 am, deputies assigned to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department-Perris Station were dispatched to a “Man Down” call in the area of Briggs Rd. x Old Newport Rd., in the city of Menifee.  Life saving measures were initiated and the medical personnel summoned transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment.   The victim was identified as Paul Leon Smith, age 53, of Menifee. 

Just prior to Mr. Smith’s assault, he had been seen riding a bicycle with a small trailer attachment near the area he was found.  On Monday, December 11, 2017, Mr. Smith succumbed to his injuries and the matter is now being investigated as a homicide. The Riverside Sheriff’s Department-Central Homicide Unit and Perris Station Investigators have assumed the investigation.  Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to call Investigator Nelson Gomez of the Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit at (760) 393-3527.
