On January 14, 2010, deputies from the Cabazon Sheriff’s Station responded to an alarm activation at Cabazon Elementary School. Upon arrival, deputies found major damage to the school involving destruction of property and graffiti. The costs of clean up and damage is estimated to be several thousands of dollars.
In coordination with investigators from the San Gorgonio Special Operation Gang Task Force (comprised of Riverside County Sheriff’s Department and other local agencies; such as, Department of Justice, District Attorney’s Office, Banning Police Department, Beaumont Police Department, Probation Department, and California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation) immediately began an investigation in search of the perpetrators.
After receiving a tip, investigators were able to locate a 15-year-old suspect who implicated himself as a principal in the crime. Other evidence linking the suspect to the crime was also located. The juvenile suspect also provided evidence which lead to the arrest of an 11-year-old accomplice. The juveniles are being charged with burglary and vandalism.
The Cabazon Elementary School takes pride in their community and works together with residents to prevent illegal activity that affects the quality of life and the welfare of their children.

Details:
On Thursday, January 14, 2010, about 2:40 AM, deputies responded to an alarm activation at Cabazon Elementary School. Responding deputies found the exterior campus had been severely vandalized with gang-type graffiti. Numerous objects, including lunch tables, statues, potted plants, and concrete refuse barrels had been destroyed and strewn across the grounds.
The suspect(s) also forced entry to a classroom and the school library, where the interior area was ransacked and vandalized. The property damage and clean-up costs have not yet been established, but will be significant. Sheriff’s deputies and forensic personnel are currently working to develop leads in this case.
