PRESS RELEASE.
Date/Time Written: November 5, 2009 Type of Incident: Pedestrian Decoy Program Date/Time of Incident: November 4, 2009 0900-1300 hours Location(s) of Incident: Ramona Blvd & San Jacinto Ave Reporting Officer: Sergeant Michael Yates File Number: Numerous Details:
On November 4, 2009 the San Jacinto Traffic Team conducted a Pedestrian Decoy Program. This program was in response to the recent traffic collisions (two) in the area. The objective of this program was to bring about awareness while at the same time educate the pedestrians and motorists.
This program utilized an officer dressed in civilian attire walking in a marked crosswalk. Many of the motorists who were stopped for the crosswalk violations (failure to yield) denied ever seeing a pedestrian in the crosswalk. The goal of the San Jacinto Police Department was to make motorists more aware of their surroundings.
During today’s decoy program 30 motorists received citations for failure to yield to a pedestrian within a marked crosswalk. In addition, four of the 30 motorists also had their vehicles impounded for thirty days for driving on a suspended license.
This program is scheduled to continue through the end of the year at various locations within the city. For information regarding this program or any others you can contact the San Jacinto Traffic Team at (951) 537-6401.
