PRESS RELEASE
Date/Time Written: 10/24/09 1630 Hours Type of Incident: Illegal Car Sales in Moreno Valley Date/Time of Incident: 10/24/09 Location(s) of Incident: Throughout City of Moreno Valley Reporting Officer: Sergeant Jacqueline Horton File Number: Various Details:
On Saturday October 24, 2009, Moreno Valley Police Officers from the Traffic Unit, in conjunction with Investigators from the Department of Motor Vehicles, targeted several areas within the city of Moreno Valley known for illegal car sales. Moreno Valley officers located vehicles parked on city streets posted for sale. The vehicles were checked through the DMV system and were either unregistered or being illegally offered for sale by dealerships. A decoy was used to lure the car dealers to their vehicles and, if they were identified as selling vehicle(s) not registered to them, they were cited. A total of 14 vehicles were towed and 13 citations were issued. Eight of the citations were for unlicensed dealer violations.
This program was developed in response to the numerous complaints from the citizens of Moreno Valley and the parking problems created from the vehicles that are on display for sale.
The goal of the Moreno Valley Traffic Unit is to provide better public safety through Education and Enforcement. For any questions regarding this or any other traffic related concerns contact the Moreno Valley Traffic Team at (951) 486-6700.
