Richard Matus, 26 Details:
Riverside County Sheriff’s Investigators arrested 26-year-old Richard Matus this morning in the 66-700 block of Two Bunch Palms in the City of Desert Hot Springs. The arrest stemmed from an investigation into a carjacking that occurred last week on October 19, 2009.
On the evening of the incident the victim offered to give Matus a ride from Palm Springs into the area of Desert Hot Springs. While doing so, Matus assaulted the victim and took the victim’s vehicle, leaving the victim injured and on the side of the road. The victim sustained various injuries and within minutes went into cardiac arrest. The victim, whose name will not be disclosed at this time, remains hospitalized.
During the investigation Investigators located several items of evidence that led to the arrest of Matus this morning. Matus who is currently on parole for weapons charges was booked into the Indio Jail on charges of robbery and carjacking.
