On Sunday, October 18, 2009, about 2348 hours, Officers from the Temecula Police Department responded to a report of a major injury traffic collision near the 2800 block of Jefferson Avenue in Temecula. Their investigation revealed the following:
A 21-year-old female was walking northbound on Jefferson Avenue with her boyfriend and four other friends. They all attempted to cross Jefferson Avenue mid-block to the west curb line of Jefferson Avenue. The female made it to the southbound lanes of Jefferson Avenue where she was struck by a motorcycle ridden by a 22-year-old male who was traveling southbound on Jefferson Avenue at about 30 miles per hour.
Both the motorcycle rider and the female were knocked to the ground and subsequently transported to Inland Valley Hospital by ambulance. The male was later treated for minor injuries and released from the hospital. The female was admitted to the hospital in critical condition with broken bones and serious internal injuries.
