On Saturday, October 10th, 2009, at about 1945 hours, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Cabazon Station, assigned to the Calimesa Police Department, responded to a theft from the Shell Gas Station on Calimesa Boulevard that had just occurred. Deputies responding to the call saw a subject matching the description of the theft suspect, standing in the shadows of the McDonald's parking lot which is adjacent to the Shell Gas Station.
The subject fled from deputies and ran into the McDonald’s bathroom. Deputies gave chase and contacted the subject, later identified as Sergio Santana, 23 years old, of Yucaipa. During their investigation, the deputies discovered Santana had nearly one pound of marijuana (13.7 ounces) in separate packaging inside his backpack. Sergio Santana was arrested for felony charges related to 11359 of the Health and Safety Code and was booked at Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility on the charges. The marijuana seized has an estimated street value of $2,500. It was determined that Santana was not connected to the theft from the Shell Gas Station.
