On October 9, 2009 at 0230 hours Officers from the Moreno Valley Police Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the location of Iris Ave. just east of Oliver in reference to a major injury traffic collision. Moreno Valley Fire and paramedics also responded. The injured driver, Xavier Alexander Gonzalez was transported by ambulance to the Riverside Regional Medical Center for treatment. At approximately 0300 hours, Mr. Gonzalez was pronounced deceased.
Mr. Gonzalez is a 21-year old male and Moreno Valley resident. He was driving his Acura Integra westbound on Iris Ave. where it appears he lost control of his vehicle and struck a light pole and two trees on the South side of the street. No other vehicles were involved in this collision. At this time the investigation is still ongoing; however, speed is believed to be a factor.
Westbound Iris Ave. was closed from Oliver to Via Del Lago at 0233 hours, and will remain closed during the investigation.
