Details:

On October 4, 2009, at approximately 0910 hours, an officer from the Temecula Police Department was patrolling the parking lot of the Hope Lutheran Church, located at 29141 Vallejo Avenue, in the City of Temecula, in response to vehicle burglaries occurring in church parking lots during worship services. Witness statements on prior investigations indicated the suspect vehicle was possibly a dark colored Toyota Camry.

While the officer was conducting a check of the parking lot, he observed a black Toyota Camry enter the parking lot. A subsequent records check on the vehicle's license plate revealed the vehicle was reported stolen. Additional units responded to the area and a felony stop was conducted on the vehicle. The driver identified as Alfred Gonzalez 09/11/77, and front seat passenger Saira Utley 03/05/87, were detained without incident. A records check of Utley revealed she was on probation for 459 PC Burglary. A records check of Gonzalez revealed he was on probation for 530.5 PC Identity Theft. Both subjects were subsequently arrested for 10851 VC Vehicle Theft, 466 PC Possession of Burglary Tools, and 496 PC Possession of Stolen Property.

A check of the interior of the vehicle revealed multiple items believed to be stolen. These items consisted of several purses, five cellular telephones, four digital cameras, approximately forty gift and access cards, a laptop computer, several iPods, jewelry, a portable GPS vehicle navigator, six sets of vehicle keys, and a camera equipment bag full of camera equipment. Also located were numerous burglary tools consisting of screwdrivers, a window punch, pliers, door lock puller, gloves, and two flashlights.

This investigation is on going and any resident who has been the victim of a vehicle burglary within the last several months is encouraged to contact the Temecula Police Department to follow-up on the items recovered during this investigation. The Temecula Police Department urges all residents to be vigilant and not to leave valuables left unattended in any parked vehicle. If items must be left inside a vehicle the safest place is out of sight in the vehicle's trunk. Always ensure your vehicle's doors and windows are secured to assist in preventing these types of crimes.
