PRESS RELEASE
Date / Time Written : October 3rd, 2009 / 1530 hours Type of Incident: Residential Burglary Investigation and Subsequent Arrests Date/Time of Incident: October 2nd, 2009 / 1420 hours Location of Incident: 14000 Almond Street, Cabazon Reporting Officer: Sergeant Ponder File Number: B092750012 Details:
On October 2nd, 2009, at approximately 2:20 p.m., deputies responded to a reported residential burglary that had just occurred in the 14000 block of Almond Street in the unincorporated county area of Cabazon. Upon arrival deputies met with a female victim who said she had just arrived home and found that unknown suspect(s) had broken a window, entered her residence and ransacked the home. A search of the residence revealed that the suspect(s) had likely fled, just prior. Taken during the burglary was a digital camera, large flat screen television, jewelry, and various other home electronics valued at approximately $4,600.00. Deputies located evidence at the scene, and left the location to continue the investigation.
While deputies were continuing their investigation, deputies assigned to the Moreno Valley Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle in the city of Moreno Valley for vehicle code violations. The vehicle abruptly came to a stop, and the two male occupants fled from the deputies on foot. Deputies gave chase to the two males, who subsequently attempted to carjack a passing motorist. The two males were unsuccessful in the carjack attempt, and were taken into custody. A search of the vehicle the subjects originally fled from revealed the digital camera, large flat screen television, jewelry, and home electronics that had been stolen prior in the Almond Street burglary. Initially unaware of the origin of the stolen items, deputies assigned to the Moreno Valley Police Department used photos stored in the recovered camera to identify, and contact the burglary victim, who informed them of the burglary, and the on-going investigation being conducted by Cabazon Station deputies. The victim subsequently met with the Moreno Valley Police Department assigned deputies and identified the recovered items as belonging to her. Additional items, not belonging to the Almond Street victim, were recovered and are believed to have been stolen in a burglary occurring in Desert Hot Springs.
The two males arrested were later identified as Jamall Adams, 20 years old of Desert Hot Springs, and Jeremiah Spicer, 18 years old of Banning. Both Mr. Adams and Mr. Spicer were subsequently booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center on felony charges relating to attempt carjacking, burglary and possession of stolen property.
The investigation is continuing. Anyone with additional information regarding this crime is encouraged to contact the Cabazon Sheriff’s Station at (951) 922-7100.
