On October 09, 2009 at 0700 hours, Investigators from the Indio Sheriff’s Station with the assistance of the Coachella Criminal Apprehension Team, Southern Coachella Valley Community Services District Team, and investigators from Indio Police Department, served search warrants based on information received from this ongoing investigation. One search warrant was served at a residence in the 57000 block of Desert Cactus in Thermal and second was served at a residence in the 85000 block of Avenida Raylynn in Coachella. Several items taken during the robbery were recovered. Weapons, to include one stolen from an unrelated theft in a neighboring city, were recovered. Two subjects were arrested for multiple felony violations and booked at the Indio Jail.
- Eileen Ortiz, age 24 of Thermal was arrested for robbery and possession of stolen property.
- Daniel Avila, age 25 of Thermal was arrested for receiving stolen property, possession of stolen property, convicted felon in possession of a firearm and possession of live ammunition with prior convictions.
Both subjects were also implicated and identified as being involved in a similar robbery that occurred in the City of Indio approximately one week earlier.

View Larger Map On Saturday, September 26, 2009 at 6:00 p.m., officers from the Coachella Police Department responded to a past call of an armed robbery in the area of Avenue 52 and Sunset Street in Coachella.
The investigation revealed that two door-to-door salesmen received a telephone call from a potential customer. The salesmen agreed to meet with the female customer at a vacant residence. Upon arriving at the residence, the female customer approached the salesmen along with two other male suspects. One of the male suspects brandished a handgun, while the other two suspects removed the merchandise from the victims’ vehicle. The suspects fled the area in a full-size, dark-colored SUV-type vehicle. The victims were not harmed during the robbery.
- Suspect #1 is described as a Hispanic male in his early to mid-twenties with light-colored eyes, approximately 5’5” in height with a medium build.
- Suspect #2 is described as a Hispanic male in his early to mid-twenties with brown eyes, a shaved head, 5’7” in height with a medium build.
- Suspect #3 is described as a Hispanic female in her early twenties, a thin build with light brown hair.
