Unclaimed Money Claim Filing Instructions

1. Search the Unclaimed Money Database by first or last name.
2. Click on your name and the unclaimed money form will appear.
3. Please note the deadline date and complete the form.
4. Print and mail the claim form with the following required documentation to prove ownership:

  • ALL INDIVIDUAL CLAIMANTS, refer to SECTION A.
  • ALL BUSINESS CLAIMANTS, refer to SECTION B.
  • ALL HEIRS OR BENEFICIARIES OF THE DECEASED OWNER, refer to SECTION C.

FAILURE TO PROVIDE THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION WILL RESULT IN THE CLAIM BEING DENIED FOR PAYMENT.

Section A - individual Claimant Identification
You are required to submit ANY of the following documents:

  • Copy of a current government issued photo identification (e.g., driver license, state identification card, passport, etc.) for each claimant
  • Specific documentation proving your ownership (e.g., copy of inmate release, copy of court judgment, etc.)

Section B - Business Claimant Identification
You are required to submit ALL of the following documents:

  • Copy of a current government issued photo identification (e.g., driver license, state identification card, passport, etc.)
  • Specific documentation proving your ownership (e.g., copy of inmate release, copy of court judgment, etc.)
  • Personal business card
  • A notarized affidavit authorizing you to claim such funds as an employee of the named account
  • The authorized owner's signature
  • If you are the owner of the named account, submit any business related documentation naming you as the owner

Section C - Deceased Owner
You are required to submit ALL of the following documents:

  • Copy of a current government issued photo identification (e.g., driver license, state identification card, passport, etc.) for each claimant
  • Specific documentation proving your ownership (e.g., copy of inmate release, copy of court judgment, etc.)
  • The death certificate of the deceased owner, the signature of the Executor, Administrator or Attorney, plus ONE of the following:

    • Complete copy of the court-ordered distribution of the decedent’s estate
    • Complete copy of the decedent’s will and/or trust agreement, if the distribution of the estate was not ordered by a court
    • Copies of certified letters, dated within the past six months, appointing the executor or administrator of the decedent’s estate

Confirm that all required documents are included and send the entire package to:

All claims will be reviewed and processed within 60 days. Please do not inquire on the status of your claim unless it has been over 60 days from the date you mailed your package. Such calls will only delay disbursements.

Privacy Notification

 

The information Practices Act of 1977 and the Federal Privacy Act require the Riverside Sheriff's Department to inform you that your personal information (which may include your Social Security Number) and other documents are requested for property identification and claim processing. You have the right to view your records at this office from 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Monday through Thursday and 8:00A.M. To 4:00 P.M Friday.
