Sheriff's Corrections Assistant Trainee
Position Information
Sheriff's Corrections Assistant Trainees work in a training capacity performing more routine specialized clerical duties and under immediate supervision learn more complex and difficult clerical tasks. Sheriff's Corrections Assistant Trainees are expected to promote to the Sheriff's Corrections Assistant I after satisfactory performance and meeting the minimum qualifications (typically 6 months) or be terminated/returned to former classification.
Examples of duties:
- Receives and reviews for accuracy court documents, interprets court proceedings to determine which inmates are to be released or detained.
- Administers inmate booking including inputting charges into automated criminal tracking systems.
- Verifies information in inmate's file and applies appropriate Penal Code and Bail Table rules/ regulations in order to compute inmates'
- sentences and determine proper discharge date.
- Receives cash or checks from inmates and the public, issuing receipts, crediting proper inmate or departmental account and reconciling daily receipts.
- Prepares documents, updates files and automated criminal information data systems on inmates being transferred to other federal, state and county correctional facilities, coordinating with appropriate agency liaison the transfer of inmates to their facilities.
- Prepares daily court calendar to ensure that inmates are transported to the proper courtroom and on the correct court schedule.
- Calculates appropriate bail amounts by applying penal code and bail schedule and answers phone inquiries from bailbonds firms and the public
- regarding bail and release information.
- Sheriff's Corrections Assistant Trainees may be expected to work weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts.
