Deputy Sheriff Trainee -- Position Information

Deputy Sheriff's provide a wide variety of law enforcement services throughout the unincorporated areas of the County and in contracting cities. Initial assignments may include the jail, patrol or civil functions. Deputies may be assigned to work any shift, various days of the week, including weekends and holidays. Your career begins with training at the progressive 22-week P.O.S.T. Certified Academy. After graduation from the academy, Trainees are promoted to Deputy Sheriff with full sworn police officer powers. The initial probationary period for Deputy Sheriff Trainee is eighteen months. New hires are responsible for paying their portion of the PERS safety retirement (9%) for the first three years of employment.
