The Court Services Division is responsible for security in the Courts, the execution of orders issued by the Court, and the service and enforcement of Civil Process.The Sheriff receives , serves and executes all civil process and orders, that are accepted for service, in the manner prescribed by law.

The majority of procedures and laws governing the service and execution of civil process are covered in the California Code of Civil Procedure (CCP). The law requires that all process brought to the Sheriff for service must be valid on its face, issued by a competent authority and accompanied by adequate legal instructions.The instructions must state the process to be served, the person or entity to be served, the location for service and be signed by the attorney of the party or by the party, if he has no attorney. Instruction forms for specific types of levies and service requests can be download from the Forms page. Also, there are generally time restrictions regarding the service and enforcement of various types of civil process that must be adhered to. The fees for service of process are set in accordance with the California Government Code, 26720 et. seq. The Riverside County Sheriff's Court Services Division does not accept personal checks for civil process fees. Cash, cashier's check, or money order must accompany requests for services.

As of January 2, 1995, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department has discontinued service of non-enforcement types of civil process. Non-enforcement civil process can be served by anyone over the age of 18 that is not a party to the action or by a registered process server. A list of Registered Process Servers in Riverside County may be obtained from the Office of the County Clerk & Recorder located at 2724 Gateway Drive, Riverside - phone (909) 486-7000. A request by mail must include a self-addressed stamped envelope. Mail your request to: County Clerk & Recorder, P.O. Box 751, Riverside, CA 92502-0751. The Riverside County Sheriff continues to serve and enforce the following types of processes:

We will also serve documents in cases where a California court has ordered a waiver of fees for the party requesting the service. A certified copy of the Order on Waiver indicating that it applies to Sheriff's fees is required.
