Riverside County Sheriff / Coroner's Bureau
Corneal And Tissue Donation Program

Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner is in a unique position to assist impaired people to see again, to repair damaged or burnt skin, to fight leukemia or repair damaged heart valves. We work closely with OneLegacy Donor Network to acquire needed tissue to help the living recover.

Government Code Section 27491.47 provides that corneal tissue may be removed from a decedent without family permission provided there is no objection and there is going to be an autopsy. But today, a representative of the tissue bank will contact each family of a suitable donor, as soon as possible following the death, and ask for permission. This tissue is used to help others.

The tissue bank recovers and utilizes corneal tissue for sight restoration, skin for grafts, bone and bone marrow, heart valves, soft and connective tissue.

For further information concerning the donor program please contact OneLegacy at (800) 338-6112.
