Forensics Services Bureau (FSB)
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Forensic Services Bureau provides expert forensic support services to local, state, and federal agencies upon request. The Bureau’s Forensic Technicians, each with diverse and vast experience, respond to officer involved shootings, homicides, and other major crimes as requested.
The Forensic Services Bureau provides forensic investigative assistance in the form of crime scene services, laboratory services, questioned document examination, and forensic photography. These services are managed by a lieutenant and three supervising forensic technicians. Investigations are conducted by a team of forensic technicians, forensic document examiners, a forensic photographic laboratory technician, and support personnel.
Crime Scene Investigation:
Crime scene diagrams, forensic photography, aerial photography, composite sketches, evidence collection and preservation, latent fingerprint development, gravesite body recoveries, and many other responsibilities.
Laboratory Evidence Processing:
Latent fingerprint development, detection and collection of trace evidence, restorative processes, and other requests utilizing a variety of forensic tools, chemicals, and procedures.
Questioned Documents Examination:
Handwriting/signature comparison, identification of author, determination of authenticity of handwriting, document authenticity, originality of document, modality utilized to create a document, and other requests utilizing a variety of examination methods.
Processing and printing of photographs, film scanning, image recovery, editing and enhancement, creation and printing of exhibits, provides professional expertise on matters relating to general photography and digital imaging, and manages all digital photo files stored on multiple servers.
